Updated guidance now available for Chief Investigators and Clinical Trials Units

03th September 2026

We’re pleased to share an updated version of our guidance for Chief Investigators (CIs) and Clinical Trials Units (CTUs), designed to support the development of effective and productive clinical trial collaborations.

Originally developed in 2018 by the UK Registered CTU Network’s Efficient Trial Conduct Group, the guidance was created to support discussions and expectations when setting up new trial collaborations. Since then, it has been adopted and adapted by a number of CTUs across the Network.

The document has now been reviewed and refreshed by a sub-group led by Katie Morris, Director of the Birmingham CTU and Professor of Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine, on behalf of the Chief Investigators’ Network Group, ensuring that it reflects current practice and continues to support strong, productive working relationships between Chief Investigators and CTUs.

Thank you to Katie and everyone involved in reviewing and updating this valuable resource.
